Common Problems That Could Impact Your Sprinklers

Lawn sprinklers are a feature of your property that can save you countless hours of watering the grass. While the sprinklers are a part of your landscaping that you may not give much thought to, they can suffer malfunctions that have to be repaired.

Inconsistent Pressure

The amount of pressure that is coming from the lawn sprinklers will need to be as consistent as possible. Otherwise, the sprinklers may apply the water to the area in an uneven way. This could lead to areas of your lawn being significantly underwatered while other areas may be overwatered. There can be a variety of reasons for these pressure issues. One of the more serious will be the development of leaks in the tubing as this could allow much of the water to leak out before it reaches the sprinkler head. Additionally, there may be obstructions in the line or the sprinkler's nozzle. These issues could lead to the water flow being interrupted before it reaches the sprinkler head.

Unexpected Puddles

If you notice that new and unexpected puddles are forming after using the sprinkler heads, it is important to act quickly as this may be a sign that there is a substantial leak in the line. Failing to repair this leak can contribute to sizable property damage occurring as the water causes the soil to erode away. This can put additional strain on the waterline, which can increase the risk of the leak worsening. Additionally, it can deprive the grass of much of the soil that is supporting it. Unfortunately, excavation work may be needed to repair this damage, but sprinkler repair providers will have tools to allow them to keep this excavation work limited to as small of an area as possible.

Malfunctioning Sprinkler Head

The sprinkler head can be another part of your system that could be prone to malfunctioning. Modern sprinkler systems typically use retractable sprinkler heads. While the mechanism for extending and retracting these sprinkler heads is relatively simple, it can still malfunction, which can cause the sprinkler to become jammed. A common source of this problem is small rocks getting lodged in the sprinkler. However, it can also occur if parts of the sprinkler head become warped. This could lead to these parts no longer fitting together correctly, and this may contribute to it jamming. If this is the source of the problem, the sprinkler head will likely need to be replaced. To keep the risk of this damage occurring as low as possible, you should always take a few moments to ensure all the sprinkler heads are fully retracted when preparing to mow the lawn.
